Receive Update from PARCAB Members on Citywide Art Category Ideas. (For Discussion Only)

Neighborhood and Leisure Services Director Palmer summarized what he asked for from members at the last meeting.  He gave examples of potential ideas and asked what members think the public would like to see at the parks. Member McKenzie stated his concern for El Dorado and Seastrand parks regarding the aesthetics and how he would like the funding to be used for things such as the brown grass.  Director Palmer said the federal funding can only be used on park art. Member Hiller asked if it can be functional art, art that can be a bench, usable art that families can be used.  Director Palmer went into details about the circle at Seastrand Park. Dr. Maxwell added that many citizens are unware that there is plenty of nature around the state, such as a geyser that is in Northern Nevada or the Elephant Rock in the Valley of Fire. He proceeded to add different ideas that could be made into a replica that is around the state or nearby with the hopes of children seeing the replica and then wanting to visit the real thing in person.  Director Palmer said the City is relying on the PARCAB members to reflect the thoughts of the citizens and what they would like.  He suggested that surveys can be done. The concept is this group is to represent the citizens. Member Zawarus described and went into detail on the pictures he provided.  He said taking advantage of the natural elements, the plants/ trees shown follow the states irrigation (low maintenance) can be very selective and strategic, plants with seasonal change - can also be therapeutic to citizens seeing actual seasonal change can be good for mental health. Director Palmer said his community art project is on point.  Director Palmer and members brainstormed on possible art projects.

4.
